Laura Carthew is an interdisciplinary visual artist working primarily with video. Her practice investigates rituals, memorialisation and choreography within both cultural and spiritual practices.
Since graduating from Monash University in 2011, she has been a recipient of several grants and prizes. These include The National Gallery of Victoria Trustees Award; Artstart, Australia Council for the Arts; Creative Individuals Career Fund, Copyright Agency Limited and The Cultural Trust Fund, Ian Potter Foundation.
Laura has had solo and group exhibitions across a range of galleries in Victoria. These include Nellie Castan Gallery, Platform Contemporary Art Spaces, Trocadero Art Spaces, Manningham Art Gallery and MARS Gallery. She has also exhibited internationally at galleries, fairs and festivals including Video Stage, Art Stage Singapore, The Ferry Gallery, Thailand and at Obscura Festival, Malaysia.
